RIP – Another hostile state bill dies in committeeOregon Senate Bill 769 died quietly in committee on April 6 following a single hearing. The bill was promoted by the abortion industry in an effort to harass pregnancy help centers. It was sponsored by the Oregon Senate Committee on General Government, Consumer, and Small Business Protection. The Oregon pregnancy help centers and their local allies helped defeat the attack when they returned to the capitol (as they had done a few years ago) to actively oppose this legislative effort. The failed bill would have required that persons advertising or providing certain health services (i.e., pregnancy health services) to post notices and provide disclosures about the nature of those services. It also would have prohibited persons providing certain health services from disclosing health information without written consent of service from the recipient and further would have required that persons providing services provide specific health information (e.g., abortion referral) to service recipients. The bill would have imposed civil penalties for violation. These failed provisions echo the wording of hostile legislation that the abortion industry is peddling to elected officials throughout the U.S. at the state and local level government levels. |
